MARY PATRICIA DEVEAU

I am an abstract painter living and working in Comox, British Columbia, Canada.

I create textured and often lively and energized abstracts.  My influences are many and varied, just depends on the day, the time of year, the mood I am in, and the bits and pieces of visual information my brain recollects.  However, it is when I get out of my head completely that I seem to create my best work.  When overthinking comes into play, disaster soon follows. But that’s okay because a failed work becomes an underpainting for the next.  I never give up.

I don’t think art needs to be explained. I do love discussing artwork, especially in terms of what you see and how it makes you feel, but explaining it in definitive terms would mean that one interpretation is more right and that is not the case in my opinion.

Each and every individual will have a different experience in front of an artwork and may not know how to explain its effect.  Every piece of artwork is unique and every experience with an artwork is truly unique to each of us.

I am a graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design.  My work has shown and sold in various galleries and festivals throughout B.C., and in Alberta.
